Asbo-Tesco-Ipso-Facto

You know those days when it feels like you'd just like to stay in bed for the whole day? Well rejoice, your time has come!

Tesco Dress Code Policy: "To avoid embarrassment to others we ask that our customers are appropriately dressed when visiting our store (footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted)".

We all heard about this, and most of us laughed and forgot about it, this tidbit didn't make me laugh. It was social admission that there is now a whole class of our society that have reached the point in life where there literally is no point in getting dressed anymore. They have made a conscious decision that from now on it has ceased to be relevant whether they are dressed or not.

As Colin Brazier pointed out, if you can't be bothered to change out of your night-clothes, it's not likely you possess any of the aptitudes which make the world around us a better place; stoical parenting, selfless duty to others, or the ability to hold down a job. This state of affairs is a direct result of the 'Nanny State': If you constantly take away responsibility from people, they eventually won't accept responsibility for anything – not even responsibility for dressing themselves. The 'powers that be' are in the process of creating a nation of children, then then trying to discipline them into behaving.

You may be wondering how this relates to advertising, or indeed design in anyway whatsoever. Well I'll tell you. I'm running a competition to design a pair of PJ's that would be acceptable to wear out and about (you could photoshop your favorite politician into you newly designed PJs if you desire) other than that there's no rules. Send your designs to me: simon@thebgroup.co.uk and the winner, judged by me, purely on what I think is the best, gets a prize. The prize will be something from my house I no longer want. Can't say fairer than that.
